December 2010

Dear City North,

As families across Australia join together and celebrate the joy of Christmas, many in the developing world struggle to access some of the most basic necessities in life.

To help change this, City North Baptist Church has partnered with Baptist World Aid Australia to support the Beyond Disability project in Cambodia.

This Christmas, during your church services, you will hear about a life that has been changed because of your support! Om Rom 5 web

Om Rom was just seven years old when war broke out in Cambodia, and his parents and four siblings were all murdered. Om Rom ended up captured by Khmer Rouge soldiers and tortured until he could no longer walk.

Discover how Beyond Disability helped Om Rom turn this around… City North will be showing a DVD about Om Rom in December and there are brochures telling Om Rom’s story available in the church.

Reflection on Galations 5:6

We all long to be part of something bigger than ourselves to feel we belong.  This is especially true in our relationship with God.  The drive is so strong that we will go to great lengths to feel we are ‘doing the right thing’.  In Galatia the people were being told that Christians had to be circumcised to be true followers of Jesus. Paul’s response to this claim was revolutionary. He said “For in Christ Jesus… The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Galations 5:6

As you remember the freedom you have in Christ this Christmas, let your ‘faith express itself in love’. You can do this by supporting Northside’s partnership with the Beyond Poverty project. God loves the poor dearly. As you express God’s love for them, you become part of something far bigger that God is doing in the world – the restoration of all things in Christ (see Ephesians 1:10).
