AM Series: Jesus… The Compelling Truth

Information… knowledge… communication… technology! These are the trademarks of life in the 21st century.  You’d think we’d have life all worked out.

“Don’t tell me how to live … I can work it out for myself” is the unspoken mantra today.  But in reality there are more confused and messed up people today than there have ever been.  So many people are lost, longing for answers that they cannot find.  Deep down we all want to know the truths about life.  We want someone to follow.  We crave a moral compass.  We long for beliefs to give stability and direction to our lives.

Therefore what John, the disciple of Jesus, wrote 2000 years ago has a special relevance for us in our generation.  Like us, he was on a search for truth, and what he discovered about Jesus changed his life.  The Gospel of John is his eye-witness account of Jesus as he personally knew him  –  who he was, what he said and did, and how he changed the lives of those who came to believe in him.  John came to the conclusion that Jesus was more, much more, than an extraordinary man.  He was the God-man.  “The Word (=God) became flesh and made his dwelling among us” John 1:14.  He came to show us how we can know God personally, and to experience life with him both now and for eternity.  These 21 chapters present Jesus in a way that compel us to take him seriously.  Their message comes fresh and relevant to us today.

Perhaps you are on a personally journey, looking for something/someone to satisfy the deeper longings of your heart.  There are many voices today calling for your attention.  Have you seriously considered Jesus?  Why not follow this series of messages over the coming weeks as we take up this challenge?  John’s stated goal in writing this book is found near the end in John 20:31:  “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name”.  May God help us all find the truth about life as we come to a convinced belief in him.
