The Gospel and Alcohol ()

Joe Khan, July 1, 2012
Part of the Individual Message series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

Description

The abuse of alcohol in Australian society is one of our biggest social problems. It is responsible for sickness, domestic violence, sexual promiscuity, road accidents, suicide and death. but all of this is not new to humanity, in fact the Bible tells us that ever since the process of fermentation was discovered humanity has struggled with drunkenness. The Bible records about 60 clear warnings against the perils of drunkenness and it is clearly condemned as sinful. However, alcohol itself gets a far more generous hearing in Scripture - it is a symbol of joy and prosperity. And Jesus Himself clearly drank wine and used it as the continuing symbol of His sacrificial covenant. Seeing all this we need to do some hard thinking about how we as gospel people should respond to the issue of drinking in our society today. Pastor Joe seeks to give us some resources to help us with this thinking.
